Senior
Police Communications Operator
- This is a specialized
non-sworn law enforcement position coordinating the operations of the University
Police communications center. Position requires specialized knowledge of the
FCIC/NCIC terminals, university-wide fire/intrusion alarm network and Emergency
9-1-1 system.
- This position
supervises all Police Communications Operators assigned to the University
Police Communications Command Center and assures the satisfactory productive
performance of assigned duties. Responsible for enforcing all policies governing
the Communications Center. Provides draft changes to policies for the Communications
Center.
- Evaluates in writing
the performance of subordinates; Counsels subordinates on a regular basis;
Acknowledges and commends outstanding performances of subordinates; Will conduct
through investigations of complaints against subordinates and will report
in writing all results; Initiates disciplinary measures as required. Assures
standardization and continuity in procedures of all shifts. Responsible for
preparing shift schedules of subordinates, leave requests, coordinating schedules
and assisting subordinates when emergency operations are implemented.
- Responsible for
operating and monitoring at a high level of proficiency the Hillsborough County
Enhanced 9-1-1 systems,
FCIC/NCIC computer system, the Blue light emergency system, the university
alarm system and all other equipment in the Communications Center. Is expected
to be able to perform all assigned duties required of the subordinates. Will
ensure FCIC/NCIC certification of subordinates or self will be maintained.
Will perform or oversee the data entry into the alarm computer and insure
that all information is current (i.e. Blue light system).
- Assigns and supervises
the training of all new subordinates; Maintains safety and security of 9-1-1
emergency recording tapes; Responsible for monitoring and reporting to the
appropriate authority equipment malfunctions and repairs of all Communication
Center equipment and maintaining detailed logs of repairs and actions taken;
Identifies and implements training needs for the Communication Center; Schedules
routine testing of public emergency communications equipment. Assists as liaison
with committees directly affecting the Communications Center as needed.
- Responsible for
maintaining a neat and orderly Communications Center; Maintains accurate chronological
memo files, SOP books, and needed supplies for normal operations in the Communications
Center; Stays abreast of technical trends, potential improvements and maintains
a current file of prioritized needed improvements detailing rationale and
associated costs.
