Police Communications
Operator
- This non-sworn law enforcement
position is responsible for operating the University Police Department emergency
communications center on a 24-hour basis. University Police Department communications
center serves as a university-wide emergency network center to include fire/intrusion
alarm network, Hillsborough County's enhanced 9-1-1 system and the Blue light
emergency system.
- Responsible for monitoring
the field positions/activities of Law Enforcement Officers, Investigators
and non-sworn officers; dispatching officers in an efficient manner to emergency
and service calls and coordinating other non-university emergency response
services (Tampa Police Department, Tampa Fire Department). Inputs and transmits
call information, checks driver's licenses records, vehicle registrations,
warrants criminal histories and missing person lists using computer terminal.
- Operates/monitors at
a high level of proficiency the Hillsborough County's enhanced 9-1-1 emergency
systems, FCIC/NCIC computer system, the Blue light emergency phone system,
and all other equipment in the Communications Center. Monitors the university
alarm system and notifies appropriate personnel upon activation.
- Reviews, evaluates and
disseminates criminal activity/confidential information to those who have
a need to know on a 24 hour basis and Provides information/assistance to members
of the public who visit the University Police Department.
- Compiles daily logs,
complaint cards, officers field activity reports and other management reports
as necessary for use in evaluating all law enforcement field activities. Assists
the Sr. Police Communications Operator in the field training of new dispatchers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma and one year of telephone/switchboard experience required
(appropriate college coursework or vocational/ technical training may substitute
at an equivalent rate for the required experience). Weekend and holiday hours
required; five-day workweek, eight-hour work shift. FCIC/NCIC computer certification
required (Department will provide this training). Background investigation required
including fingerprint check through the FBI.
WORKWEEK: The basic
workweek is forty (40) hours; time-and-a-half paid for all additional hours
physically worked over forty (40) hours. Three shifts rotate approximately every
17-18 weeks.
EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS:
Eligible employees may enroll in one USF credit course, up to six (6) credit
hours each semester.
HOLIDAYS: Nine (9)
paid holidays per year . Two (2) floating holidays and one (1) personal holiday.
ANNUAL LEAVE:
May accrue 104 hours for first 5 years, 130 hours for 5-10 years and 156 hours
for 10 years or longer. Any annual leave hours accrued in excess of 240 hours
at close of business on 12/31 each year will be converted to sick leave hours
SICK LEAVE: May accrue
104 hours per year. There is no maximum number of sick leave hours that may
be accrued.
